Box Score The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Volleyball team completed a weekend sweep against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack recording a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-22) victory Saturday afternoon at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg (3-5) came back from a 0-2 deficit to beat the WolfPack (3-5) in a five set thriller Saturday night.
Fourth year outside hitter Ozana Nikolic picked up where she left off yesterday, finishing with 14 kills, nine digs and three blocks to along with a hitting percentage of .414. Fifth year Tia Boroski was next with 13 kills. Sonia Rossy had a match high 10 digs. Aaliyah Masepela had three service aces and a pair of blocks.
The WolfPack were led by Iuliia Pakhomenko's match high 19 kills. She also had nine digs and three service aces. Alina Sopizhuk was next with seven kills.
Thompson Rivers began the match with things going their way. The WolfPack led 11-6 when things turned in Winnipeg's favor. A 5-0 run highlighted by three service aces by Aaliyah Masepela pulled the Wesmen even at 11-11. Winnipeg led 16-13 at the technical timeout and went on to win the opening set 25-19.
The second set was all Winnipeg. A fast 6-0 start propelled the Wesmen to a 16-5 lead at the technical break, before eventually winning the set 25-12.
Winnipeg carried their momentum into the third set. After falling behind 2-0 Winnipeg regrouped to take a 16-11 lead into the technical timeout. Boroski and Nikolic combined for six kills after the break to lift Winnipeg to a 25-22 set three win.
The Wesmen currently riding a three match winning streak will host the UBC Thunderbirds next Friday and Saturday. The WolfPack will be home to face the Brandon University Bobcats.
