Wesmen Begin Second Half With Four Set Victory Over MacEwan

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen kickjed off their second half schedule with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 28-30, 25-21) victory over the MacEwan University Griffins on the road in Edmonton, Alberta Friday night.

Winnipeg with the win improves to 4-9 in regular season play. The Griffins fall to 3-10.

Fifth year outside hitter Tia Boroski led the Wesmen with a match high 15 kills and a team high 18 digs. Second year left side Alex Rose had 13 kills. Fifth year setter Jayme Menzies had 46 assists. Fifth year middle MacKenzie Jeffrey was in on six blocks.

The Griffins were led by Kate Rozendaal's 14 kills. Cassidy Kinsella was next with 13 kills and Mckenna Stevenson had 10. Karly Edgar led the Griffins in digs with a match high 21.

Winnipeg took advantage of 11 Griffin attacking errors to win the opening set by a 25-17 margin. The next two sets were as close as they can be. Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead in the match winning the second set by a score of 25-23.

The Griffins got back into the match winning the third set in extra points 30-28.

The Wesmen recovered in the fourth set and closed out the match taking the set by a 25-21 score.

Winnipeg and MacEwan will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday night. Match time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The action can be seen live on canadawest.tv
