The Mount Royal University Cougars defeated the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-12) Friday evening in Calgary, Alberta.

Carolina Alongi led the Cougars with a match high 12 kills. Alex Donaghy was next with eight.

Tia Boroski led the Wesmen with seven kills. Chelsea Jones and Ozana Nikolic each had six. Sonia Rossy led the Wesmen with a match high 15 digs.

Mount Royal with the win goes to 10-11. The loss drops the Wesmen to 8-13 in regular season play.

The Cougars won a tight opening set 25-22 and took control of the match by winning the second set by a margin of 25-23.

The hometown Cougars dominated the third set, closing out the match with a 25-12 set three win.

The teams will play Saturday night in the late match, beginning at 8:00 p.m. (Winnipeg Time).
