Box Score The Mount Royal Cougars women's volleyball team earned second-consecutive victory in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) over the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday evening in Calgary, Alberta.
The win puts the Cougars at 11-11. Winnipeg falls to 8-15.
Alex Donaghy led the Cougars with 10 kills. Kylie Willis followed with seven. Jenna Smith had 34 assists and 11 digs.
Ozana Nikolic led the Wesmen with eight kills. Karissa Kuhr, Chelsea Jones and Mackenzie Jeffrey each added seven.
In the opening set a kill by Carolina Alongl tied the game at 14-14. A Winnipeg error directly preceded the game's first media timeout. A block from Kylie Willis and a kill from Alex Donaghy clinched the opening set for Mount Royal by a score of 25-22.
The second set saw the Cougars build a comfortable 19-13 and never looked back as they took a 2-0 lead in the match winning the set by a score of 25-16.
An early third-set advantage for Mount Royal was wiped away by the Wesmen until the visitors committed an error to tie the set at 15-15. Pulling ahead in the latter stages of the set, the Cougars went on to win the win the match, taking the third set 25-21.
Winnipeg will wrap up their regular season schedule next Friday and Saturday on home court against the Alberta Pandas.
