Wesmen can't secure sweep in Saturday setback

Box Score

DAVID LARKINS, Wesmen Athletics

The Winnipeg Wesmen weren't able to pull of a home-and-home sweep of the Brandon Bobcats, dropping the return match in Brandon Saturday night.

Emma Parker had seven kills and nine digs to lead the Wesmen in a 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-8, 25-16) setback to the Bobcats in a Canada West women's volleyball match in the Wheat City.

The Wesmen (4-14) previously earned their fourth win of the season in a Thursday victory at the Duckworth Centre, but couldn't find a path to a series sweep.

Middle blocker Taylor Boughton was the most efficient Wesmen on the night, cracking four kills on eight swings for a .375 efficiency. She had eight points on the night, as did fellow middle Jess Friesen, who had five kills, two aces and two block assists.

Libero Jessica Andjelic had a team-high 16 digs.

Nikki Majewski had a match-high 20 kills and 11 digs as Brandon improved to 4-16 on the season. Rayvn Wiebe and Michelle Egger both had 10 kills for the Bobcats, who hit .287 for the match against Winnipeg's .057.

The Wesmen now break into the Duckworth Challenge with a home-and-home series against the Manitoba Bisons that goes Friday at U of M and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.
