Wesmen step game up but fall in three at UBC

Box Score

A more efficient night attacking wasn't enough to help the Winnipeg Wesmen slow the tenth-ranked team in the nation.

The UBC Thunderbirds hit .448 for the night and put up 12 total blocks in handing the Wesmen women's volleyball team a 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-15) defeat in a Canada West conference match Saturday in Vancouver.

Winnipeg, which hit .038 in a three-set loss on Friday, was stronger a night later posting a .195 team percentage with 30 kills on 87 swings. The Wesmen doubled their kill total from the night before.

Emma Parker had 10 kills on 24 swings and hit .292 for the match. Parker also had a team-high eight digs.

Middle blocker Taylor Boughton had one of her most effective nights of the season for the Wesmen (4-18), notching six kills on 10 swings with just one error.

UBC (15-7) got 11 kills from Kiera Van Ryk, who hit .588 for the night.

The Wesmen are home to the Alberta Pandas Friday and Saturday night to close out the Canada West season.
