Box Score The Winnipeg Wesmen will go back on the road with another point in their pocket.
The Wesmen women's soccer team fired a season-high 10 shots and offered some significant threat in their play, ultimately settling for a 0-0 draw with the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday night at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.Â
The Wesmen record moved to 0-5-3 on the season ahead of a western swing that starts Friday in Calgary against the Mount Royal Cougars, and concludes Sunday in Victoria against the Vikes.Â
Winnipeg has earned points in three of its past five games.Â
Jazmyn Castro carried the play early for Winnipeg, with three shots — two on target — in the first half, as the Wesmen sought to take the upper hand.
Emma Friesen had perhaps the best opportunity when her screamer of a shot sailed just wide of the UNBC goal only four minutes in.Â
In the second half,
Chloe Zarrillo had a great crack at her first goal as a Wesmen, but her shot in the 51st minute just went over the bar.Â
"Chloe had a great game today and is really finding her rhythm. I'm really impressed with how the players responded from yesterday. We were on our front foot all game and we were unlucky not to capitalize," Wesmen head coach
Amy Anderson said. "And I really want to acknowledge how strong our back line has been. It's been the strongest part of our game.
Sydney Arnold is really maturing into being a dominant centre-back in our league. Â Today we just needed a bit more quality in the box, but it's coming and we will continue to work hard at it."Â
Madison Priebe finished with eight saves in the Wesmen goal, while Brityn Hinsche stopped seven as UNBC earned its first point of the season.Â
