The Winnipeg Wesmen will start their season with four straight road matches it was revealed Monday as the Canada West unveiled its 2024 women's soccer conference schedule.
Â
The Wesmen women will open the season on the road in Alberta Sept. 7 when they visit the Calgary Dinos before making the short road trip to Lethbridge Sept. 8 to meet the Pronghorns.
Â
Winnipeg will be on the bus the following weekend to Saskatoon and Regina where the Wesmen will take on the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars, Sept. 14 and 15.
Â
The team's home-opener won't be until Sept. 21 when the Alberta Pandas come to town followed by the MacEwan Griffins on Sept. 22.Â
Â
The annual derby with Manitoba will be played Oct. 10 at Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex, a match that will serve as the first leg of the 2024-25 Duckworth Challenge, with the second match at U of M on Oct. 12. Â
Â
Last summer, the conference announced sweeping changes to scheduling for the 2024 season. Teams from the three Prairie provinces will now compete exclusively against each other while the schools from British Columbia compete in their own division. The changes were meant to address the amount of travel while also putting an emphasis on regional rivalries.Â
Â
Because of the newly specified scheduling, for the first time in program history the Wesmen will play Calgary, Alberta, Lethbridge and MacEwan twice each in a season.Â
All matches will be streamed live on Canada West TV and subscription packages for all sports in 2024-25 will be announced in the coming weeks.Â
