Ring of Honour
One of the finest athletes coming out of high school, Jamie (Hancharyk) Jones took the longer journey to get to UWinnipeg, but it was worth the wait.
After originally committing to and playing for the Manitoba Bisons, Jones chose to move to downtown to UWinnipeg and promptly won three straight national gold medals with the Wesmen women's volleyball team.Â
She was twice named the national player of the year (1983, 1984) and was also national tournament MVP and UWinnipeg female athlete of the year in the same years. Jones was a four-time all-Canadian in her four seasons with the Wesmen.
Inducted as a multi-sport athlete into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2017, Jones is also a member of the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame, the Manitoba High School Hall of Fame, and went in to the Canada West Hall of Fame as a member of the 1980s Wesmen women's volleyball program.Â
