Ruth Klassen shone as one of the stars of a Wesmen women's volleyball dynasty.
Klassen was part of the historic run of six straight national championships the Wesmen won between 1982 and 1988, being named the nationals MVP in 1985.
Klassen was a five-time all-GPAC and five-time all-Canadian garnering first-team all-CIAU four times.Â
She finished her university career as the national player of the year in back-to-back years.Â
In 1985, she was named the Manitoba Sportswriters & Sportscasters Association female athlete of the year.
After her career at UWinnipeg, Klassen went on to compete for the senior national team until retiring in 1990. She was also a member of the 1980 junior national team that captured gold in the NORCECA junior championships.Â
Klassen is also a member of the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame, the Canada Volleyball Hall of Fame and the Sport Manitoba Hall of Fame.Â
